DNA Genealogy

Have you heard of Maury Povich? He is a talk show host who is popular due to his “Who is your Baby’s Daddy?” shows. He has made it his mission to make men accountable for the children that they have fathered. You are probably wondering how he does this? He uses something called DNA genealogy.

DNA genealogy is very popular right now. This is because DNA tests can provide so much information to us. DNA tests are used in forensics in order to track and capture criminals. You have probably seen shows like CSI and Dr. G: Medical Examiner. What you probably have not realized is how DNA genealogy can help you.

It is very natural to wonder where you came from, who your ancestors were. Each of us has an inborn desire to know more about our families. It can be interesting to find out if you have royalty in your bloodline. Have you ever wondered what your name means?

I did and so I sought out more information about my last name. It turns out it means low and thickset. This was very amusing to me. I am 5 feet 1 inches tall and am what many would consider a thick girl. I never would have thought that my last name so aptly describes me!

Did you know that DNA genealogy tests have a 99.99% accuracy ratio? They are almost completely foolproof. If you are trying to find out who the father of your child is so that he can claim responsibility, I would highly encourage you to consider this option.

Most of these types of tests can be done at a local medical clinic. However, you may be referred to a hospital for more in depth testing if that is what you are looking for. DNA tests are helpful because they also help identify any abnormalities that may occur in the genetic process. This is especially helpful to know when considering the health of your unborn child.
